Between The Stillness and Disappearance

A Solo Exhibition by Deborah Sisco
Opening reception November 6, 2025 at USC-Beaufort Center for the Arts, Beaufort, SC from 5:30p-7:00p.

Charleston-based abstract artist Deborah Sisco presents Between The Stillness and Disappearance, a deeply personal and emotionally resonant exhibition exploring the terrain of Alzheimer’s through texture, color, and silence. Inspired by her husband’s journey with the disease, Sisco’s work invites viewers into a layered experience of memory, loss, and love.

Spanning five immersive zones—Prelude to Loss, Disorientation and Loss, Care and Holding On, Interlude, and Vanishing Point—the exhibition unfolds as a visual and emotional narrative. Each painting is paired with poetic reflections that offer space for contemplation without prescribing meaning.

Sisco’s signature style—oil on wood panel or canvas, often integrated with AI-generated inspiration—evokes the fragmentation and shimmer of memory. Her use of texture and color creates emotional landscapes that are both intimate and universal.

Highlights include:

  • The Little Things, a tender opening piece on the Lobby Wall

  • Turning Point, a transitional work inviting quiet reflection

  • Still Quiet, placed with a bench for contemplative pause

  • Between Stillness and Disappearance, the final painting in the arc, shimmering with emotional release

A companion hardcover book and takeaway booklet will be available, extending the exhibition’s narrative through high-resolution reproductions and poetic texts.

Deborah Sisco graduated with honors in studio art at age 69 from the College of Charleston, after decades as a self-taught painter. Her work has received international recognition, including the Leonardo Da Vinci Contemporary Artist Award and Top 60 Masters.
