Audition Material
Music:
Monologue:
ANDRE: (Page I – 9 – 7 ) An unrepentant party hound. A flirt and a bit of a womanizer.
“Isn’t she wonderful? Direct from three straight years entertaining our boys overseas, here she is, America’s most beloved band singer, the Songbird of Seventh Fleet: Miss Amelia McQueen!”
KEN: (Page I – 9 – 9) Jovial, cheerful, and loud. Larger than life.
“Yes, people everywhere are giving their all for the war effort. And here’s a little lady who’s going to show you exactly how to do it. Let’s give her a special welcome, it’s her first time on any stage: Miss Nell Carter!”
AREMELIA: (II 4 – 1) A strong-willed woman who is unafraid to share her thoughts. She is confident and at ease in her body
“Fats and his buddies used to go downtown to tin Pan Alley and try and sell some of their songs. They’s play eight bars and get fifty dollars.”
NELL: (II 4 – 1) Confident and charming. A knowledgeable woman of the world
“That’s right. Although Fats and his buddies did write and perform one type of song for Tin Pan Alley, sweethearts, when they went uptown to Harlem it was a completely different story.”
CHARLAINE: A sweet, young lady. Very innocent.
"Fats had his way of getting even tho'. They'd go from publisher to publisher and play the same eight bars and get fifty dollars from each one of them”
